The current economic conditions coupled with rising food costs might make some think twice about throwing a large Super Bowl party, but for the die hard fans, a party can still be had on a budget with the following recipe ideas. Five ideas to make your party a success without breaking the bank:

1. Finger sandwiches: Because who doesn’t love a good sandwich? Spread thin slices of whole wheat or white bread with margarine. Next, place a thing slice of ham on each and top with a tiny amount of mustard. Cut off the crusts and cut into 1/4 sized pieces.

Include a variety of choices to make everyone happy. Other ideas include: creamed cheese with small walnut pieces; egg salad, just use your favorite recipe; cucumbers with a dash of fresh garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper on buttered bread.

2. Chips and salsa: Buy store brand tortilla chips and buy a bulk sized salsa. Watch store ads for the weeks leading up to the big day for sales and coupons. Try visiting a discount grocerer in your town or a bulk store like Sam’s Club for the best deals.

3. Hold a best Chili contest: Spread the cost of your party to all participants by telling invitees before hand about the best chili contest. Tell each guest or family to bring a pot of their families favorite recipe. Buy traditional chili toppings like cheddar cheese, crackers and onions.

4. Make your party BYOB: Save on alcohol costs by requesting everyone bring a case of their favorite beverage. Or, watch sales ads for the best buys leading up to the big day. Cut down on drink choices. If you normally included several types of alchololic drinks and non-alcholic choices, go with one type of beer and one mixed drink. Spread the word that you are providing bottled water and punch. If your guests have another prefereance, they can bring it along.

5. Bean dip: A Super Bowl party must have, and a chance to go healthy. Combine 2 cups fat-free canned refried beans, 1/4 cup salsa, 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro and enjoy!
