2010 Olympics features Men ONLY Ski Jump, Women Forbidden From Competing!

Lindsey Van holds the record — for both men and women — for the longest jump off of Whistler, B.C.’s normal ski jump, built for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The Games just kicked off today and will be held without women in the Ski Jump competition. When I first heard that I thought I must be mistaken. What year is this? Oh, yeahh it’s 2010. The reports being generated from the Olympics camp state that, ” women just don’t have what it takes to compete in the Ski Jump”. Tell that to the current Record holder, Lindsey Van.

Lindsey is on the US Ski team. (Go Team USA!!!) She is all of 5’3’’ tall and has been told all her life, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” Her dog, Yuki (translated “snow” in Japanese), and I are saddened that her dreams of being an Olympic Gold medal athlete have been shattered because she isn’t properly ‘equipped’. Being equipped with female parts does not seem to be good enough for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I feel like I am in the twilight zone. Is this really happening? Every morning I wake up (late), and find my sweet husband getting our four kids ready for school. I have three girls, and one handsome cub. I try to tell each of my kittens they can be anything they want when they grow up. I am sure Lindsey’s mom said the same to her every morning.

Does she now think her mom lied to her? Ughhh, I hope not. I hope that dear girl still believes in the good in the world.

I interviewed a fellow twitterer who was super excited for the Olympics, she is pro Team Canada – I forgive her – and is from Vancouver. I asked her her thoughts on the fact that there will be no female presence in the 2010 Winter Olympics Ski Jump.

I agree, I really want to try out for the sport of Ski Jumping! Well, maybe not today. Well, ok maybe not at all!  Burrr! It does make me want to ring the alarm though.

I asked @tomcruise to comment on this social injustice. I mean, what if Suri wanted to ski jump?! Shouldn’t she be able to. Tom Cruise declined to comment.
