Which Events Are the Most Exciting for 2010 in Vancouver?
Written by Nick Meyer
The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada are almost here, and there are several events that top Olympic athletes are currently getting ready for as the world’s eyes turn to the winter sports.
Winter Olympic events are much different than Summer Olympics events in a lot of ways but they all have their own unique charms.
As the Winter Olympics in Vancouver approach, it’s time to take a look at my picks for the best events to keep an eye on in 2010.
Ranking the Best Events in the 2010 Winter Olympics
5. Bobsled-
This Winter Olympics event has always been a favorite of mine because of the high-speed thrills and teamwork required to win in the event. The competition is usually fierce and the chase for the gold medal is always exciting when it comes down to a few seconds.
4. Speed Skating-
Ice skating is hard, at least in my opinion. Of course, I’ve only attempted to skate once, but it gave me a great appreciation for the skill and dedication speed skating takes.
It seems like one of the toughest Winter Olympic sports to excel in and it’s always exciting to watch.
3. Ski jump-
This Winter Olympic sport takes a great deal of guts and confidence in order to do well in, and the danger factor definitely ratchets up the ntensity, making it one of the most entertaining Winter Olympic sports around.
2. Figure Skating-
Judging scandals aside, figure skating is an entertaining sport despite my tendency to not pay attention to sports that rely on subjective scoring systems. The grace, precision, and talents of figure skaters are amazing.
1. Hockey-
The best Olympic sport by far in my opinion. While hockey doesn’t translate as well to TV as other top sports, it’s still an excellent game and competition for the gold will be fierce for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with home team Canada a possible favorite.
The international game in hockey has a wider ice surface for smoother play, something the NHL should look into adopting for the future.
What’s your favorite Winter sport?
