Dallas, TX as a boxing venue – Rock the Box – Saturday, 07/17 – 7:30 PM

The Cowboys stadium in Arlington, TX while being home to the Dallas Cowboys, the site for Superbow XLV and a premier entertainment venue – many wonder if it has the ability to draw large boxing crowds.  Whether it’s boxing or MMA;  Dallas, TX has the capabilities, the venues, the enthusiasm, the fan base and the professional sports teams to make this city a premier venue for the everyday man to see a live boxing event.

Last March, the Cowboys stadium played host to the Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey and proved a venue outside of Las Vegas has the capability to draw crowds and make headway in a sport that’s falling in popularity since the increasing popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)  – What is boxing going to do to increase ticket sales?  In a few days, Floyd Mayweather is going to make a decision to fight Pacquiao in November or whenever.  It will probably be a longshot that the fight would be in Dallas – (lack of casino money)  but there are other fighters that could make a name for themselves in this town.

Charles "The Future" Hatley - AP

Rock the Box is this Saturday and while it’s not at the Cowboys stadium the event will showcase Charles “The Future” Hatley (11-0, 9 KO’s) from Oak Cliff facing Joshua Marks (7-2, 7 KO’s) of El Centro, CA.  This will be an eight round main event on a six- bout card at the Harbor Ampitheater at Lake Ray Hubbard.  I love this place – it’s scenic with some great restaurants and bars.  Hatley is fighting welterweight at 147 lbs and the 5’10″ Hatley is making a name for himself and as the bouts get tougher so does Hatley.  You will not want to miss seeing Hatley at this level.

Hatley has been contacted by some of the big-time promoters but for now he is happy to stay under the guidance of his father Greg Hatley, Sr.
